Professional Development

Excellence in early childhood education (ECE) programs is built on a workforce that promotes continuous program improvement. Professional development is a cornerstone of this process. It includes gaining new knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with experience and competencies that relate to one’s profession, job responsibilities, or work environment. ECE programs and staff must address three areas: Professional Development Systems; Foundation for Staff Development; and Individual Career Development. Resources are organized within these areas to promote easy access to the information you need.

15-minute In-service Suites

These 15-minute In-service Suites are a professional development resource for staff in busy, active early childhood centers and programs. They are organized around one topic or big idea and address effective teaching and assessment practices.

Head Start Employees: Reduce Your Monthly Student Loan Payment

This guide provides information about two federal programs that could help make student loans easier to pay back: Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and Income-driven Repayment (IDR).

Reflective Practices and Strategies in Early Head Start

Reflective supervision and reflective parenting practices can be considered as the circle of support or the continuous relationships that allow caring for and supporting infants and toddlers to be the main focus in Early Head Start.

Higher Education Learning Modules

These learning modules are highlights of higher education courses from the EarlyEdU Alliance®. They go a bit deeper since they combine theory and the latest early childhood education research with students’ field-based learning.
