Zoning with One Adult
Teacher 1: [Speaking Spanish] This one. Allan. This one. Which one? You´re marking it on paper. This one goes on the whiteboard. [Child yelling] And this one here.
[Indistinct conversations]
On the paper. Ask her to move her hand.
[Indistinct conversation]
Here´s another piece of paper.
Teacher 2: [Speaking Spanish] How does that work? Can you show me how that works?
[Children speaking indistinctly]
Teacher 2: [Speaking Spanish] Yeah.

Teacher 2: [Speaking Spanish] Do we need this other page?
In family child care settings, there may only be one adult in the learning environment. This can occur in group care settings, as well. In these situations, adults need to plan for where children will be and intentionally position themselves within the environment. Notice how these educators position themselves. Where are they facing? What are their backs toward? What other zoning strategies are these educators engaging in?
