Child Interviews: Problem Solving
[ Music ]
Cydalise: Hi, I'm Cydalise, and today, we'll be talking to some kids about problem-solving. Let's get started. So how would you solve a problem when you're in a fight? Like, how do you solve that problem?
Child: By patting them.
Cydalise: Patting them on the back like it's going to be okay? Child: Go in the back quiet room.
Cydalise: Go in the quiet room or, like, walk away from the problem. Child: Visit the quiet room.
Child: Try to fix it fast. Cydalise: How would you fix it?
Child: Like, talk before it gets – before it gets to nap time. Child: Mom or Dad can help me.
Child: Say something to them.
Cydalise: You would go up to them and, like, tell them, "Please don't do this?" Child: Yeah, and I will hug her.
Child: I would smell a flower. That would help me solve my problem.
Cydalise: Like trying to calm down? How would you ask your friend to play in a nice way and not just coming up to them and saying, "Come on, let's play"?
Child: If I ask nicely for someone to play with me, then they can play with me. Child: I'm going to say "please" with it.
Cydalise: "Please" with it.
Child: That's what the magic word is.
Cydalise: Let's say that there's a toy that you really want, but somebody's else playing with it. How would you solve that problem?
Child: Wait your turn. Child: My mom and dad.
Cydalise: Go get your mom and dad. Yes, Mom and Dad can really solve a lot of problems. [ Clapping ]
