Providing Feedback on the Tribal Request for Information
Director Khari Garvin: Greetings! I am Khari Garvin, Director of the Office of Head Start. This message is a reminder that we are halfway through the public comment period for the Office of Head Start’s Tribal Request for Information, or RFI, and we really want to hear from you! It is an honor for us at Head Start to engage with Tribal Nations, especially when we are talking about the ways we can enhance services to children and families in Tribal communities.
As a reminder, an RFI is a formal process to collect information. Your input helps us develop guidance, drives the training and technical assistance we provide, and informs future policy. The Tribal RFI was posted to the Federal Register on March 18, 2024, and is open to American Indian and Alaska Native Head Start program administrators, staff, families, and others who are impacted directly by Head Start regulations, requirements, and processes.
The Tribal RFI also gives our Office the opportunity to amplify and enhance guidance to uplift best practices. We appreciate those of you who have already provided comments or participated in our listening sessions. The Tribal RFI public comment period ends September 16, 2024, and comments can be submitted directly to the Federal Register or by email to AIANheadstart@acf.hhs.gov.
Please know that each comment will be carefully reviewed. Also, don’t forget to check out the Tribal RFI page on the ECLKC website. You will find all the Tribal RFI resources there as well as the link to the RFI. Again, thank you for partnering with us as we continue to work hard in making a home at Head Start!
