Co-regulation is an interactive process in which adults promote children's self-regulation through connection, support, and modeling — especially when behavior escalates. Supporting children to use self-regulation strategies independently is a critical goal for educators. But even when children learn these skills, they may still rely on strategies like co-regulation to help them successfully manage their emotions and behaviors. Coaches and coachees alike need to understand how behavior escalates and cycles back to a calm state. This helps adults make judgements about the types of responses or strategies to use depending on factors like adult and child state of escalation. Perinatal mental health conditions and concerns are common in all women. The majority do not receive treatment. We know that education and screening for perinatal mental health concerns can save lives, but screenings are not done consistently. This webinar highlights ways for Head Start programs to improve perinatal mental health education, screening, and referral practices for pregnant and postpartum women up to a year after birth.
