Disease Outbreaks, Epidemics, and Pandemic Emergency Recovery

The effects of an outbreak, epidemic, and especially a pandemic can cause both short- and long-term disruptions. Review your infectious disease procedures regularly to make sure they include the most current public health data and ways to reduce risk.

Depending on the severity of the health emergency and how many children and adults it affects, you may need to close:

  • One or more classrooms
  • Family child care homes
  • An entire center
  • Full program

If you must close all or part of a program, continue to talk with local health officials and your Health and Mental Health Services Advisory Committee to review and update your infectious disease procedures before reopening.
