First Aid Lead

The first aid lead supports educators to give first aid to children, staff, and volunteers. In Head Start programs, the first aid lead may be the health manager. 

Preparedness Actions

  • Keeps a list of all staff trained in first aid and CPR and arranges training when needed to ensure that everyone is up to date
  • Works with the supplies lead to make sure the program has first aid and other medical supplies it needs

Response Actions

  • Sets up a first aid station and gives first aid as needed
  • With the learning and care lead, documents injuries and any actions taken

Recovery Actions

  • Works with the supplies lead to replace first aid supplies when needed
  • Assesses the need for more first aid or other medical supplies
  • Provides care for injuries after the emergency has ended
  • Assesses the first aid response and makes recommendations for improvements as needed
