Part 2: Write Your Disaster Preparedness Plan

Once you have completed the four Getting Ready steps, you are ready to write your disaster preparedness plan. As you write your plan, consider what you will do before, during, and after an emergency. Make sure your written plan includes the completed forms, templates, and worksheets in the appendices. Also include the forms that your local jurisdiction or licensor requires.

In a large program that has more than one facility, each facility needs a written disaster preparedness plan that is specific to their site.

Your written plan will be specific to your program and can be organized into these sections:

  • Local Community Partners
  • Hazard Assessment
  • Emergency Roles and Responsibilities
  • Communication
  • Drills
  • Facility Safety
  • Emergency Supplies
  • Relocation and Reunification
  • Mental Health
  • Continuity of Services
  • Special Considerations for Disease Outbreaks, Epidemics, and Pandemics

Your Policy Council and governing body should review and approve your plan.
